Struggling to Find Motivation

The title says it all, but I might as well elaborate for the five people or so who will read this. :)

It has been really hard for me to find the motivation to leave the house and go get a workout in.  Im doing the self employed thing right now, so my schedule is very flexible.  Its not that I don’t have time to leave the house and work out.  Its just that I can’t seem to make myself do it.

This whole situation makes me sad because exercising is usually my favorite part about staying healthy and losing weight.  But I stopped for a while with finals and graduation and a trip afterwards… and now…. now my body doesnt seem to remember the joy it got from working hard.  It seems stuck in lazy mode.  And my brain is all to happy to support the decision to stay lazy.

I know that if I don’t get back out there no one is going to make me.  And if I don’t start again I will NEVER run a 5k like I want to.  Which not being able to run the race I had planned because of other commitments threw me off.  Once I realized I wasnt going to get to run that I kind of gave up my training.  Apparently I need to find a new 5k race to have as a goal and make sure no other event conflict with the date!

At home I have very little support or motivation.  I always work out alone  because none of my friends want to go.  I will have to motivate myself and that has been hard to do lately.  Very hard to do.  This lack of motivation is really hurting me.  I haven’t worked out in an entire week!  Here is to hoping I talk myself into working out today.  My body could use a good bout of exercise.

I know how you feel. There are times when I don’t have the motivation to go out the house. And many of the times, I don’t. But then, I force myself to get out and I am always so glad that I did.

I would just try to “schedule” the exercise in so you almost feel obligated to do that. or designate “exercise” days where you know on that day, you have to exercise. trust me, I hated exercising and yet have somehow stuck to my schedule by implementing the above and its actually helped. I think once you get started again, it will become a habit again.

Thanks for the ideas Heather. I think it will be easy once I get started again and get into the habit. Scheduling it sounds like a good idea instead of just saying I will do it if I have time because I somehow always manage to let the time slip by.

I can’t get out of the house to do it. I’m much better at doing something at home before I shower and get out of the house. I’ve used various workouts. We have a treadmill and a bike. I just recently got the Bender Ball and I love the workouts that came with it. (I got four dvds with it and am concentrating on the buns & thighs one for this month.) Definitely make the time, don’t wait for leftover time - we never have it! :-)

I really REALLY wish I had the magic words to share with you that would make you want to do what you need to do. I also really wish I had them for myself as well.

I do know that when I am the most successful is when I don’t give myself a choice. When I just make a blanket statement that I will do it, I usually do. If I give myself a chance to back-out one day, I back out a lot.

I have a lot of encouragement around me - a very supportive and active husband, a friend/co-worker who is totally on the wagon, and a great blogging community. And I still find myself on the scale upswing.

We’re all in this together. Just keep on keeping on! One day, it’ll click.

Right?
